TEAMability Receives Grant from The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation

San Antonio, TX – TEAMability  has received a $5,000 grant from The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation through the Cavaliers’ “Adopt A Charity” program.  TEAMability, whose mission is closely aligned with that of The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation, has been a prior grant recipient.

The funds from The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation will be used  in support of TEAMability’s unique program for children with Cortical Visual Impairments (CVI).  Cortical Visual Impairment is a visual impairment caused by the brain’s inability to correctly process what is in front of the eye rather than a physical difference of the eye as in other visual impairments. For this reason, ophthalmologists often overlook the possibility of a CVI diagnosis and it is either misdiagnosed or goes completely undiagnosed until later in childhood.

Over 90% of TEAMability’s children have such limited mobility, communication and cognition that they are unable to access many of the Center’s existing sensory environments. This generous contribution ensures that all children will be able to experience the joy of discovery.

“The Cavaliers’ dedication to our community’s children is reflected in their history of service and on-going efforts to raise funds. TEAMability is honored that the Cavaliers have found our mission worthy to fund for the past three years,” stated Barbara Goldman, TEAMability’s Executive Director.

Founded in 2003, TEAMability is the only organization in South Texas dedicated solely to addressing the exceptional needs of children with severe, multiple disabilities from birth to age 22. TEAMability’s unique learning environments broaden the opportunities for these children and give them the ability to explore their world, which they would otherwise be unable to do.

About TEAMability

TEAMability is the “go to” provider for children with severe multiple disabilities. When children with severe multiple disabilities are discharged from other services for lack of “progress” they have nowhere else to go. TEAMability knows that every child has the capacity to learn and engage actively in their life, and that every child deserves the opportunity to live life to the fullest. TEAMability makes sure that children with severe multiple disabilities have those opportunities. Learn more about TEAMability at www.teamability.org.
